Using the handles "GhostSix" and "Warlock6," one Daniel A. Ness has appeared on many outdoor, knife, gun, and LEO forums.

claimed d of b 11/18/46

Mr. Ness claims to have risen from enlisted man to Colonel in the USA before retiring in 1984 with 4 Purple Hearts, Bronze Star (with cluster), and, of course, the CIB.

He also claims to have served with MACVSOG for 120 days in VN, to have qualified airborne, and taught at a jungle warfare school in Hawaii.

He implied some sort of current connection with the CIA and top-level security clearances as of 2003.

He claims to be a "Marshall" of Council Bay, WI, but no such jurisdiction seems to exist.

I find a reference to a person with that name serving as an E-2 in the 4/25th in VN in 1967.

He volunteers more "salty" commentary  than any combat veteran of my experience, describing numberous close-up kills with various weapons, including his beloved Randall 1-7 that he could not extract from a "Gook" he dispatched with it.

These comments simply appear in the midst of a discussion of an entirely different topic. (Stainless or carbon steel for a combat knife to be sent to soldier in Iraq?   Poster A: "I vote for carbon steel; it's tougher."  Poster B: "Stainless takes less care."  Mr. Ness: "It's hard to get over the many men I killed in Viet Nam, but that was my job - to inflict the maximum destruction in the minimum amount of time.  It took skiploaders to carry away the bodies.")

If this person is being accurate about his past, we are willing to tolerate his generally impolite, invariably superior attitude at BladeForums.

If you can do so, would you clarify his service in MACVSOG?

Sir,
Firstly, thank you for your service to our country.  You have a very interesting website.

Secondly, I wanted to inform you that I recently had contact with a person by the name of Daniel A. Ness, who is posted on your wall of shame.  I cannot disclose to you the nature of my contact with him as I could be held accountable, but I will say that his introduction and strange behavior prompted me to run a Google search by the name he gave.  I immediately found your wall of shame and knew the person I was dealing with was one in the same.  He did introduce himself as either Colonel or Lt. Colonel Daniel Ness.  He dropped several references to his service in the military and even VSOG, which I did not respond to because they were completely irrelevant to my dealings with him.  I think people who do things like this disgrace themselves.  Maybe he did serve in the military and maybe he did not.  However, for what it is worth, this man seemed, I would say, borderline retarded.  He was definately mentally affected in some way that made him seem unusual.  All the location information posted on the hall of shame site fit the person I had contact with.  I hope this helps.

I never knew anyone that killed more than one enemy soldier with a knife in Viet Nam.  I also know that such events would have been well known within the community.  Does no(t) sound like a real deal from here. Moe

SGT Melvin D Ness a\was assigned to Signal Co, 5th SFGA from 7/17/69, getting an ACMS. I don't have a CIB or VN Jump Wings. His SSN starts with 568. If this is Daniel Ness, I'd have to say he is stretching things. I don't have a Daniel A in SF or SOG in my database for SE Asia

Bob, this short expletive should be enough to have set off all sorts of alarms.  The only Ness I have ever heard of had the first name of Elliot..........................

I found a Council Bay, MI.  It looks to be a very small village or settlement on the Dogpile map.  It also looks to be unincorporated, therefore, it should not have a city marshal.

I usually do not get involved  with the Twinkies but this guy Ness is  a real piece of work.

If you look over the "proof" that he has sent along with the demand for a public apology, you will note that there are some blatant  problems with his bona fides.

1. His ID card for CID etc is a dependents ID card. He is a "Colonel (ret) yet the sponsors rank is Sp4 E 4?
The Order of the Purple heart  has allusions to DAVID A Ness not Daniel A  Ness?

The BATF card says he is an agent? If that ain't true that is impersonating a federal law enforcement official ( felony)

Most of the other stuff is pocket trash, with his life memberships beginning in 2004?

Most of these organizations do not require a DD214 to join and in most he is listed as an "associate" member, like the Orange County Police Officers Association. Orange County, Where?

He has persistently claimed to have been a member of SOG or assigned to SOG. He is listed by reference as a Pvt E2 with the 25th Division.

My guess is that he has either stolen David A Ness's identity, or he is or was with the 25th as a snuffy and built this littler fantasy world around himself. he is definitely a paper hanger and probably is lifting other
peoples IDs  while he is floating around the VA. His VA ID by the way shows him wearing a Smokey the Bear DI hat? Yeah right.

I would love to find out that this pus gut was never even in the military, or better yet he was married to some Sp 4 in Kaiserslatten. I bet somewhere someone has a jacket on this bozo.

He presents himself as a Marshal but  when he pissed off some LE type, who checked him out they found there was no such office in the township he claims to be from. he is also a member of the VFW and the American Legion. NO proof at all since the Legion with its failing numbers now allows CHILDREN of veterans to become members. Ft Collins Colo, is a good example. I was there last year and only about 30% of the members were actually
veterans.

This guy evidently makes comments like when he was in SOG they had to use skip loaders to haul away all the bodies that he killed with a knife. I know Yevitch can track his VA stuff if we ask real nice. If you look real close at his "proof" there are obvious washes and overlays, most fairly crude. My question would be  how is he getting VA benefits? If he is some E2 snuffy that got wounded in Nam, well that's fine he deserves it, if he is some clever paper hanger, then he is defrauding the government and besmirching all veterans. Absolutely NO dd214 in all the "proof" hmmmm wonder why.

In this case I agree. Burn this asshole. Impersonating an officer, impersonating a veteran, impersonating a police officer (federal)?

Hope all is well with your son, stay loose , stay connected, stay lubricated.
