DANIEL BOONE Weekly Report 19 Aug - 25 Aug 67 (U)

1.  (TS) HIGHLIGHTS:

One RT mission was conducted during the reporting period; however, it did not enter Cambodia.  The launch of one RT was postponed indefinitely because of a reported ICC visit near the target in the Se San are of Cambodia.

2.  (TS) Operation Summary:

a.  RT MANE landed in RVN in the vicinity of target ZULU- ?? at YA599491 on 2309..Z Aug 67.  The following morning the RT moved to YA594489 where they ... .... nine bunkers. On 230300Z Aug 67, the RT observed an abandoned camp site at YA597...  This camp site was four to six months old and could accommodate approximately 50 people.  On 230900Z Aug 67, at YA588482, voices of approximately seven personnel were heard.  The language spoken could not be identified, however, several Montagnards were talking in a separate conversation within the same group.  This group, estimated to be a total of 15 personnel, moved to within 20 meters of the RT..at the same time two VC/NVA were armed with AK-47 rifles and dressed in light blue uniforms.  Shortly after spotting the VC/NVA, three single rifle shots were heard followed by single shots heard from four different locations.  Yelling could be heard from the direction of the four shots.  The US RT leader directed an air strike on the enemy locations, withdrew to the north and was extracted from RVN at YA588485 on 231222Z Aug 67.  There were two TAC air sorties flown in support of this operation with unknown results.

b.  The launch of RT LEVEL on target WHISKEY-50 was postponed indefinitely.  Notification was received...that the ICC planned to visit the Se San area in the vicinity of the target in Cambodia.  The purpose of their visit was to conduct an investigation of alleged rocket sites in the southern portion of Se San area.  Since target WHISKY-50 is within four kilometers of the northern edge of the Se San area, launch of an RT was postponed to preclude detection of DANIEL BOONE operations by the ICC.
